The borough council has confirmed a 30-minute parking tariff at Upper Castle Fields Car Park will be restored, following a petition signed by more than 2,000 people.
As reported in the Times last week, residents were dismayed by the move to axe the short-stay option.
The cheaper rate will now be reinstalled within the next few weeks, though it will be set with a minor rise from its original 50p, to 60p for 30 minutes parking.
After the council acknowledged it had made an administrative error in removing the tariff, parking officers then issued a notice at Upper Castle Fields car park suggesting the price hike had been set at a minimum charge of £1.20 for an hour to bring it into line with other car parks.
Resident Lucy Stringer said: “We are very happy the council has listened to us as it will save us a lot of money, even with the 10p increase. I am not sure why it takes them a few weeks to change it back.”
