Cinema site plans released for screening by the council

NEW images of what is being planned for the old cinema site were released last week by developer Altitude UK.

Members of the council’s planning committee were given a preview on Monday (March 20) of updated plans for the 1.3 acre site following a public consultation in October.

Named The Belvedere – which means ‘fair view’ in Italian – the proposed development will see between 80 and 100 residential units built on the site, alongside an mixed retail and leisure units.

In addition, a cinema will be reinstated within the premises for the first time since ABC closed its doors in 2000 and a water feature has been proposed for where the building intersects with Church Road and Mount Pleasant Road.

It is hoped that a detailed planning application will be submitted during May of this year

Altitude Director, Stephen Tillman said “Whilst the design process on this important site for Tunbridge Wells has taken a little longer than expected, we believe it has been time well spent in engaging with interested parties to produce a scheme of high-quality design that is not only something for local people to be proud of but, crucially, is also viable and deliverable.

“This will enable us to bring forward this site that has lain empty for so long, and repair this important part of the fabric of the town”
