The sports club which was awarded £384,000 for a new pavilion has now been granted planning permission for the project – and is hoping to raise an extra £100,000.
As the Times reported in July, Langton Green Community Sports Association was granted the money from the Football Foundation but as it will not be enough to finish the clubhouse, the club wants to raise more.
The extra would also allow other schemes, such as improving pitches and possibly buying more land to accommodate the growing number of members.
The club’s fundraising co-ordinator Katy Beatton said that now planning permission has been granted, demolition will start on the old clubhouse ‘in the next few weeks’.
She said: “Once work starts, we’ll have more idea of how much it’s going to cost.
“Finishing the project will take more than the £384,000 but I don’t know whether it’ll be £10,000 more or £80,000.
“We want to raise £100,000, as that’ll give us flexibility to look into other projects.”
Mrs Beatton said the current pitches are subject to flooding and that lack of space means some members have to play in Groombridge or Ashurst.
She said: “We’ll fundraise for the clubhouse, then the other projects.
“I’m doing a large dinner-dance next year, but we’ve also emailed the 600 members asking for the children’s ideas for raising money. It’s a family club and the children will bene? t so we want them to feel really involved.”
