Documents released this week show that the cost for the Civic Complex project, that includes a new theatre, will stand eventually at £90million gross. Earlier figures, not gross, were shown as £72million.
Tunbridge Wells Borough Council (TWBC) has published their RIBA Stage 3, a final assessment of the contested proposal to build on land bordering Calverley Grounds.
Stage 3 is the final assessment before the council applies for planning permission and it is unlikely the cost will rise further.
Further details about the Civic Complex (pictured) were also explained in the report, including proposals to build a large community space outside Calverley Grounds where a water feature could be built.
The council has said this is likely to be maintained by a local group.
Other changes include adding planting to soften the appearance of the theatre and change the general shape of a council office block, to be built as part of the plan.
TWBC is inviting the public to a drop-in session on Saturday [November 11] where it is possible to view the proposals from 9am to 6pm at Royal Victoria Place.
This is in the lead-up to a full council meeting on December 6 when councillors will vote on whether to approve proposals. This could see a bid for planning permission launched next year.
Critics have argued the plans will bring further congestion and that public services could be cut.
