A new home for Tunbridge Wells’ creative industry will be opening on Monson Road this Friday (September 30).

The newly renovated workspace, named The House, aims to provide premises for small businesses, networking events and training for firms in the fast-growing sector – estimated to now account for 11.5 per cent of jobs in Tunbridge Wells.

The renovations of the former Citizens Advice building, conducted by Workspace Collaborations Ltd, include 70 desk spaces, a communal kitchen and garden area.

A third of the desk space has already been reserved with the rest open to the public this Friday for the launch day, which will run from 2-7pm.

The Workspace Collaborations team, which is made up of local businessmen Simon McArdle and Dominic Johnson along with Ian Elwick and Martin Bouette from Sussex, will be present on the launch day to show interested parties around.

Mr Johnson said he is confident they can “create a real focal point for the sector and hopefully give it a home in the heart of town”.

A spokesperson for Kent County Council, which invested in the scheme alongside Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, said: “The UK’s creative industries are now worth £84.1bn to the UK economy… and we are pleased to have been able to support the growth of this sector in Tunbridge Wells.”
