Pupils from Sackville School met with Dame Kelly Holmes last week [March 14] to launch a series of community clean-ups.
As part of the national ‘Great British Spring Clean’ campaign more than 45 groups across the borough will be gathering to tidy up their local area.
Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council is supporting the campaign by providing equipment and disposing of any rubbish collected.
Double Olympic champion Dame Kelly, who owns Cafe 1809 in Tonbridge Road, Hildenborough, said: “It’s very important that we all take pride in our community and do our best to keep our local area clean and tidy.
“I’ve become even more aware of this as my own business has grown, and I’m determined to make sure the area around Cafe 1809 stays litter-free.”
Dame Kelly also announced that she will be signing up her eatery to the Voluntary Litter Code for Business.
The code encourages businesses to take responsibility for keeping the area around their premises clean and tidy.
