The Hall of Fame guitarist who has a house in Wadhurst, is a patron of The Folly Wildlife Rescue, and introduced the actor to the organisation’s work.
In a Facebook post, Folly said: “And what an incredible afternoon it was for our staff and volunteers, as he [Johnny Depp] toured the hospital’s care and vet units. Johnny was incredibly complimentary and in his own words ‘blown away’ by what he saw.”
As part of the visit, Johnny was given the ‘rare privilege’ of holding a badger cub named Freddie (Mercury), which the rescue is hand-rearing after the creature was orphaned.
“I think it’s fair to say he was bowled over by the whole experience!” added the centre.
The actor, who is currently on a nationwide tour with Jeff Beck, was accompanied on his visit by the guitarist’s wife, Sandra.
According to Broadwater Forest-based Folly Wildlife Rescue, the Becks’ association with the organisation began when a fallow fawn became entangled in fencing on their property.
“Unfortunately, the fawn did not survive, but Jeff was more than happy to help by becoming one of our patrons,” said the wildlife centre, adding that the couple had promoted the centre’s work and organised numerous fundraising events.
Following his recent win in a US defamation case against his ex-wife, Amber Heard, Johnny Depp has appeared on stage numerous times with Jeff Beck over the past few weeks.
The guitarist and the actor released their first single together in April 2020, a re-imagining of the John Lennon song ‘Isolation’.
