Hundreds of children across Tunbridge Wells took part in World Book Day dressing up as their favourite characters from much loved books.
The annual event, now in its 19th year, took place on March 3rd. It’s the biggest celebration of authors, illustrators and reading for children and happens in over 100 countries all over the world.
Pupils came to school dressed up in all manner of literary inspired fancy dress outfits. Harry Potter, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and Where’s Wally all made special ‘appearances’ in the town’s primary school classrooms in order to mark the fun-filled day which aims to get more children reading and enjoying books.
Fourteen million special £1 National Book Tokens are given out to schools to mark the event and encourage children to explore the pleasure of reading. Each year a variety of books are featured in order to showcase the diversity of quality writing and illustrating talent in the UK.

The £1 Book Token can be exchanged for one of the ten specially published World Book Day £1 books, or is redeemable against any book or audio book of their choice costing £2.99 or more at a participating bookshop or book club. The World Book Day £1 Book Token will be valid until Sunday 27th March 2016.
