Max Chilton, former F1 driver at Marussia and current US IndyCar racer, will take on the downhill challenge at Crazy Jean’s Soap Box Race.
The 28-year-old driver will open the third annual Soap Box race when it returns to Tunbridge Wells on June 27, 2020.
The driver, who is from Reigate. told the Times: “Not only am I looking forward to the day itself and helping to raise thousands of pounds for charity but I’m also looking forward to having a go on the track myself.
“I had already heard about the Crazy Jean’s Kart Race in Tunbridge Wells so I am really excited to be involved at this brilliant community event.”
The Soap Box challenge sees 50 wacky karts race through Dunorlan Park to raise money for local charity Hospice in the Weald.
Entrants to the race receive a basic soapbox, which they can personalise and modify as they like, with previous eye-catching karts inspired by Back to the Future, Despicable Me and Only Fools and Horses.
This year’s event raised more than £30,000.
Max Chilton will be joined by local celebrity chef, Rosemary Shrager, who is supporting the event for another year.
Event co-founder Nicole Piesse Turner, whose marketing and media company Chatty Hatter hosts the hair-raising event, said they were ‘absolutely thrilled’ to have Max on board as one of their celebrity ambassador for next year’s race at Dunorlan Park.
She added: “As an ex Formula One racer and now IndyCar star, he’s a true inspiration on the race track and we hope his support for Crazy Jean’s in turn inspires our local community to get involved in next year’s event, whether it be getting a team together to race a kart or coming along on the day to enjoy the fun.”
