Tunbridge Wells celebrated Fair Trade Fortnight last week at a special breakfast hosted by the Mayor, Cllr David Elliott.
Taking place on Thursday in the Council Chamber, the event – titled ‘Sit Down For Breakfast Stand Up For Farmers’ – was attended by a cross-section of residents, from schoolchildren to business leaders.
Guests heard Mandy Flashman-Wells, of the Tunbridge Wells Town Group, explain how Tunbridge Wells had come to be awarded its title as a fair trade town in 2007.
She said: “The campaign to promote fair trade started about 12 years ago in the local churches and has since spread to business, charities and the schools.
