So called graffiti ‘artists’ are costing the borough council thousands of pounds.
The damage done recently to walls in car park areas, largely in places such as Crescent Road and Great Hall, is expected to cost between £5,000 and £7,000 to put right.
Kent police have now issued a plea for anyone with information regarding the car park graffiti in Tunbridge Wells to contact them.
Councillor Alan McDermott, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Transportation said the amount of graffiti in Tunbridge Wells’ car parks was ‘on the rise’ and set to continue costing council tax payer’s money.
He added: “This is criminal damage. We aim to keep the car parks up to a reasonable standard and it is very unpleasant for visitors to have to park in a place which looks unpleasant and is not welcoming.”
Parking Manager Rosemarie Bennett said the council was ‘trying to keep costs down’ by using council resources to clean it up but the ‘latest wave of graffiti means staff time and resources are being used’.
She also appealed for anyone who spots suspicious behaviour in the car parks to report it to the police.
