The closure of Grosvenor Bridge is likely to be postponed until 2017, in order to avoid disruption to local businesses over the Christmas period.
The KCC said: “Network Rail has given us a timescale of between July and the end of October for the cable diversion.
“If it turns out to be nearer the latter we will probably be forced to delay the works until after Christmas to minimise the disruption.”
Works were meant to commence on June 16.
