Wearing red, white and green – the colours of the suffragist movement – and period costume, the group went from Crescent Road, the site of the old Suffragist Office via Fiveways to the old Town Hall in Calverley Road.
The march took place on December 14, one hundred years to the day when the women of the town first got the vote and local suffrage leaders, Sarah Grand and Amelia Scott, led the women of the town to the polling station.
Following readings from newspapers and speeches of the time, the procession walked to Calverley Road where symbolic votes were cast and a bouquet of red, white and green flowers laid as in 1918 to the applause of a group of young women students.
A roundtable discussion of the suffrage movement ended this year’s commemoration.
