History comes alive at Tonbridge Castle

Tonbridge Castle Medieval Fayre 6

A spectacular and colourful Medieval Fayre will burst into life at Tonbridge Castle this weekend.

Come ye one and all to feast, drink and be merry at this free to enter event, which is now in its ninth year. Immerse yourself in the authentic sights, smells and sounds as the excitement of life in 15th-century England is re-enacted before your very eyes.

There is something for the entire clan from the youngest squires and maidens to the bravest knights and jesters and wisest of kings and queens. Longbows, swords and arrows will be the order of the day as knights in chainmail do battle.

A medieval village will be created on the lawn of the Norman Castle, where you will be greeted by Pelican-in-her-Piety, a group of individuals who all love history, late medieval history in particular.

Jules Rogers from the group said: “Our aim is to entertain, educate and enthuse visitors at historic sites and events across south east England. Our displays reflect our individual areas of interest – even Dr Poo in the Turdis (the medieval toilet)!

“Tonbridge provides a vibrant and exciting show, with displays and activities taking place throughout both days. There is something for all the family and we love being a part of such a great event.

“We work with several organisations, including The Weald and Downland Museum, English Heritage and the National Trust and we have become a familiar sight at Tonbridge Castle, having attended since the very first medieval event took place when the Tour de France passed through the town in 2007.”
