Hotel is shortlisted for top design award

THE architect behind the design of One Warwick Park has spoken of his pride after it was revealed the hotel has been shortlisted for this year’s prestigious Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) awards.

James Galpin, Partner at the Tunbridge Wells-based architectural firm Hazle McCormack Young, said they were ‘very proud’ of the four star luxury hotel.

He added: “The constraints on the existing site, in terms of the historic listed buildings, the linking of the sites and the retention of public pedestrian routes whilst delivering a fully functioning multi-site hotel demanded imagination and visionary engineering design.

“The hotel is now thriving and business is booming, so the project has been a great success from an operational point of view, but now being shortlisted for the design of the buildings with an RICS Award adds professional appreciation of the scheme.”

One Warwick Park, which has 39 beds, was completed in June last year and has been shortlisted for the RICS South East Awards in the Tourism and leisure category. It is up against Battle Abbey, the Bombay Sapphire Distillery in Whitchurch, British Airways i360 in Brighton, Plumpton Tennis Club and he Yarrow in Broadstairs.

Mr Galpin will be attending the ceremony on May 17 in Southampton but said the awards were a recognition of all those who were involved in the scheme.

He continued: “These awards recognise the efforts and commitment made by the whole team, both from the architectural side and the construction and engineering brilliance of structural engineer CTP, and contractors BJBabb and Civils Ltd.

“We are very proud of the finished building and we hope the teamwork of a committed and passionate client and their building design team is recognised at the RICS Awards 2017 in May.”

Andrew Daniels, Chief Operating Officer of Markerstudy Leisure commented: “We are delighted that One Warwick Park Hotel has been shortlisted for the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors Awards this year.

“From the outset, we wanted to create a contemporary style hotel which was unique, luxurious, flexible but functional. The experienced team at Hazle McCormack Young, were instrumental in helping us achieve this and being recognised for such a highly regarded industry award is further testament to their work.”
