For the seventh consecutive year Royal Tunbridge Wells town received a Gold award in the large town category at the South and South East in Bloom awards ceremony at the Amex Stadium on Friday, September 13.
In addition to the town’s success, Dunorlan Park received a Gold award in the large park category and was the overall winner of its category.
The town’s other parks also won awards, with Calverley Grounds earning the Silver Gilt, Grosvenor and Hilbert earned Gold as well as the RHS Parks and Greenspaces award, while The Grove received Silver Gilt.
Awards
Other green spaces in the town took their share of the awards too, with Tunbridge Wells Cemetery receiving Gold, and Woodbury Park a Silver Gilt. Tunbridge Wells Common also took Gold and winner of the category.
A special discretionary award was made by the judges to Sherbourne Close, for maintenance and community involvement.
Council Leader Alan McDermott said: “Once again this is a wonderful achievement by the In Bloom group and the Council’s parks team.
“In the week we learnt of the death of Councillor Ronen Basu, who relaunched the In Bloom campaign back in 2010, these awards are a fitting tribute to him.”
The national verdict will be announced on October 25.
Last year, Tunbridge Wells won a Silver Gilt in the Britain In Bloom finals in the Large Town category.
