THE outgoing Club Captain at Lamberhurst Golf Club, Colin Poore, has raised £13,310 for Macmillan Cancer Support – which is enough to fund one of the charity’s nurse for three months.
The money was raised through organised events such as the Captain’s Charity Day, an Open Garden and tins around the club for collecting donations and fines.
A team comprising John Seal, David Edmondson, John Jenner and Tom Daker also took on Macmillan’s Longest Day of Golf Challenge, which saw them complete four rounds of golf in one day and raise over £4,700.
Colin said: “Having experienced first-hand the wonderful support that Macmillan nurses gave to both my wife and then more recently myself, my charity for the year was an easy choice.
“I would like to say a big thank you to the club members and visitors who were incredibly generous in their support of Macmillan.
“It means so much to be able to give something back and know that someone else will benefit from the vital support services that they offer.”
Helene Poursain, Macmillan’s Area Fundraising Manager for the South-East, said: “I was delighted to meet Colin at the beginning of his captaincy and hear about his ambitious plans to raise over £10,000 for our charity.
“I am so pleased that he has exceeded his goal and would like to say a huge thank you to him for all his hard work in raising the money and to the generosity of everyone that supported him.
“Ninety-nine per cent of our money comes from voluntary donations so we are so grateful for this money, which will help us to be able to provide emotional, practical, financial and medical support for people living with cancer.”
