To honour the landmark 50th anniversary in LGBTQ rights Tunbridge Wells Museum and Art Gallery are hosting a stall at the Farmers’ Market on Saturday.
They will be showcasing artefacts such as the script to a 1703 play set in Tunbridge Wells entitled Tunbridge Walks: or, The Yeoman of Kent.
It featured a queer character called Mr Maiden who is cast as a ‘molly’ – an 18th Century term for an effeminate homosexual.
The stall marks half a century since the Sexual Offences Act 1967 which decriminalised homosexual acts in private between two men, both of whom had to have attained the age of 21.
