Tonbridge-based company LitterGram visited Woodlands Junior School on Thursday (May 12) to educate the pupils on litter and its effects on the environment.
The 96 children were presented with an educational but fun session based around litter and its negative affects to our environment.
The children were then presented with litter packs and pickers, followed by a litter-pick in the school grounds. They also received a LitterGram T-shirt.
Mayor of Tonbridge & Malling, Cllr Owen Baldock who attended to support the initiative, said: “I hope all the children who took part had fun learning about litter and carrying out the litter-pick of the school grounds.
Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council is the first Kent area council to adopt the free LitterGram Council Portal connecting them directly to users of the app in the borough.
This breakthrough moment comes after a year of trialling the app and many months of working closely with the council’s waste team to ensure that a local authority’s needs are met from a back end usability point of view whilst ensuring the front end app remains extremely simple for the general user.
Mary Priestley, Headteacher of Woodlands Junior School, said: “Raising the awareness of litter and its effects on the environment is very important and so welcome this session as part of the school day”.
