MEMBERS of the Lord’s Taverners celebrated raising £58,000 for charity when they met for their 27th annual Christmas dinner at the Spa Hotel last week.
The money, raised by the West Kent branch of the sport and disability focused charity, will go towards providing a new 15-seater minibus for the Nash College in Bromley – a specialist institution run by disability and community engagement charity Livability.
A key for the bus was presented to the college at the event on December 7 by six times world snooker champion Steve Davis, and cricketing legends Derek Underwood and Chris Cowdrey assisted by Paralympic Gold Medal winner Will Bayley.
Steve McDermott, Hub Manager for Livability and Nash College, speaking at the event, said the vehicle would make ‘a real difference’ to the students at the college and will enable them to take part in many more activities.
He added: “I cannot thank the Taverners enough for their generosity and when we arrive back at the college everyone will be so excited thank you so much.”
Other notable individuals among the 200 guests included George Cohen of 1966 World Cup fame and Alan Curbishley, ex Charlton and West Ham Manager and Craig Chalmers, former Scottish Rugby Union player and Tunbridge Wells resident Harry Collins, the Queens personal jeweller.
