Known as M-Factor, the competition will see five local artists or bands perform on stage in front of Markerstudy staff, family, friends and partners who will all be encouraged to take part in the judging process to decide the winner.
Markerstudy, who at previous staff gatherings has hosted such acts as Craig David, The Script, Kaiser Chiefs, Tony Hadley and Peter Andre, are looking for solo singers, duets or vocal groups to participate in the music competition, which takes place at Bewl on Sunday, September 8 from 11am to 4pm.
That’s the same weekend as the annual Dragon Boat Festival.
The five artists or bands chosen to perform will also receive ten entry wristbands for the event for friends or family, and will be profiled in the Times before and after the weekend. The event itself is private.
The £1,000 top prize will be awarded to the winning artists by the RPJ Band [the Rick Parfitt Jnr Band], who are headlining the festival.
Rick, son of the legendary late Status Quo guitarist, has performed to over 1 million people across the world, and will be accompanied by his bandmates Jo Webb, Alex Toff and Shannon Harris who have collectively toured and performed with ELO, Take That, Wheatus and Jack Savoretti.
Local musician, promoter and music columnist for the Times, Paul Dunton, said competitions like this were a ‘fantastic opportunity’ for up and coming bands to get noticed.
He said: “Any platform that provides local bands with an opportunity to perform to a good audience is a great thing and to play in a location such as Bewl Water is a fantastic opportunity.”
