It took five fire engines and 35 firefighters to control the blaze which destroyed the roof of the two-storey property in Woodland Way.
Kent Fire and Rescue found a well-developed fire at the home, when they arrived at around 10pm.
The man was rescued from the house and was given first aid treatment by crews before he was placed in the care of SECAmb paramedics. The force has given no update on his condition.
The cause of the fire is not known and an investigation will take place.
A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: “Due to the nature of the fire in the roof a height vehicle was needed to give crews a good vantage point to be able to deal with the blaze.
“Firefighters used breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and main jets to tackle the fire. Firefighters worked hard to contain the fire.”
