Due to the Covid pandemic, there was no formal ceremony to mark this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day, which is held each year on January 27 on the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp.
However, Councillor Joy Podbury, wore her chain of office to mark the occasion privately at the War Memorial in Royal Tunbridge Wells where she laid a white lily wreath to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, the millions of people killed under Nazi Persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
