Muddy but happy in the forest

Nearly 100 youngsters and parents braved rain and wind to plant trees at Marlborough House.

Armed with ‘spades and happy smiling faces’, the green-fingered volunteers put in about 60 trees, provided by the Woodland Trust, on Saturday, November 7.

A school spokesman said: “It was a muddy but happy afternoon and the camp fire kept everyone warm after all the hard work digging and planting.”

Marlborough House forest school leader Issy McGaughey added: “The trees are now enjoying their new surroundings and we hope to see a wonderful hedge with some silver birch and beech trees in the months and years to come.

“We were delighted to achieve our bronze award from the Woodland Trust in the summer and Saturday afternoon’s activities should stand us in good stead in reaching our new goal of a silver award.”
