The new Skinners’ Kent Primary school at the Knights Wood development in Tunbridge Wells is nearing completion with a handover from the construction company Baxall to Kent County Council taking place on July 1.
On Monday Baxall hosted a special tour of the new school for the Skinners’ Governors and staff members along with representatives from Kent County Council.
Some of the pupils who will be starting there in September have also been invited for a look around their new classrooms and to try out the sport facilities over the next couple of weeks.
According to a spokesperson for Baxall, the Skinners’ Kent Primary school is ‘a particularly innovative and sustainable example’ for the town thanks to the fact it has delivered on its cost, scheduling, and sustainability goals.
The construction of the two-storey state of the art teaching facility involved an off-site ‘fabricated approach’ as opposed to a traditional on site build. The thinking behind this was to achieve a high quality building within budget with the minimum impact of the construction process on the local environment and Tunbridge Wells community.
“The very nature of this off-site design means that production and assembly were rigidly controlled,” said Baxall’s spokesperson.
“This, coupled with further sustainable design features such as photovoltaic solar panels, has created an energy efficient building which will generate whole life cost savings for the school.”
