The Vale Royal Methodist Church in Tunbridge Wells which was auctioned in early June for £900,000 – 50 per cent above its asking price – could soon be tuned into a gym.
A D2 application, to use the site as a gym, has since been submitted to the borough council by Orpington-based property developers Oakley (SE) Ltd.
In addition, it is believed the new enterprise will create three full-time and 26 part-time positions.
Conservationists will be reassured as the change of use is likely to leave the building kept intact.
Previous plans submitted in 2013 proposed knocking it down to be replaced by 14 residential flats and a smaller church.
