Plans for empty Ely Court unveiled by British Land

Royal Victoria Place has said the new street food and entertainment market wil be open this summer after outside company, Central Market, signed a deal to take over the Ely Court area of the shopping centre.

As reported in the Times in April, a licensing application was submitted by London-based Central Market and outlined plans to turn the ailing Ely Place into a ‘food court’.

The plans have now been formally approved by British Land, owners of RVP, and a pop up cinema along with a number of chain restaurants, bars and eateries will ‘offer locals an exciting dining, cinema and live music experience in Tunbridge Wells’.

With work due to get underway immediately, the market is scheduled to open to the public later this summer.

Once opened, a whole host of upmarket street food pop-ups will be on offer, including Wok and Sushi, serving a range of authentic Japanese dishes; The Argentinian Grill, which specialises in smoked meats and South American inspired sides; and The Fish Grill, cooking up fresh seafood dishes daily.

An artisan dessert pop-up and boutique ice cream shop, Rolling on Ice, will also take up residency in Central Market, with many more vendors set to be confirmed ahead of the opening.

Coupled with the dining offerings, a fully licensed bar will be open, alongside a specialist cheese and wine cellar.

Royal Victoria Place’s Central Market also plans to host weekly live music nights along with a pop-up luxury cinema that will also be situated within Ely Court.

Nicky Blanchard, centre manager at Royal Victoria Place, said: “We are so excited to welcome Central Market to Royal Victoria Place, and can’t wait to offer our shoppers something completely new.

“With dining options from around the world and lots of fun events planned for the summer, visitors will be spoilt for choice. Whether you fancy a quick bite to eat, or a night of entertainment with family and friends, there will be something for everyone.”
