A high street retailer whose biggest competitors are described as Poundland, Aldi and Lidl has revealed to the Times it will be opening a new store in Tunbridge Wells.
Wilko, the Nottinghamshire-headquartered chain which sells homewares and household goods, employs 18,000 people nationwide and is currently in the process of recruiting staff for its new store.
A spokesperson for the company said the new store was not due to open until the summer, but the Times understands training is already underway for store managers with between 20 and 50 people looking to be employed.
However, the spokesman was unable to give an exact location at this time for where the store is due to be situated, leading to speculation that the likely closure of Morrisons presents a potentially viable site.
Founded in 1930 by James Wilkinson, the company has remained largely in hands of the same family ever since and currently has over 380 stores nationwide.
