SPECULATION that Primark may still be moving into the former BHS site returned last week after a social media report that the company has been interviewing for staff to move into the shop.
The comment was posted on a Tunbridge Wells community group on Facebook, in which conversation was focused on the future of the vacant site.
One member of the group stated: “Someone I know had an interview for Primark last week for the BHS site.”
They were clear to point out that the person they were referring to ‘was not a friend’ and therefore they were not able to comment further on the issue.
Others remarked that Primark is poised to take over the BHS site in Hastings and wouldn’t be surprised if ‘Tunbridge Wells went the same way’.
However, the chain still remains tight lipped, with a spokesman for the company stating: “Primark does not comment on speculation regarding store openings and so we will not be able to provide a comment on this occasion.”
The BHS store has been empty since last August and other stores that have been tipped to fill the premises have included John Lewis and The Range.
Since then then the premises has lay vacant and has attracted complaints that the lights remain switched on.
