CHILDREN in a Year Five class at Bishops Down Primary School in Tunbridge Wells have raised an £1,798 for Pepenbury after becoming inspired by the local learning disability charity during an RE lesson.
Their teacher Debbie Wilson discussed the idea of fundraising and the impact they could make for such a great cause, and the children quickly began organising events to raise money for the charity.
No event was too big or too challenging to organise. They included climbing the O2, taking part in the Spartan Race, cake sales, sweet stalls, swimming, a park run and a garden fete.
“Both my fantastic Teaching Assistants and I have been overwhelmed with the enthusiasm and determination the class have shown and we are still in shock at the incredible amount of money they have raised,” said Debbie. “Fundraising has always been a huge part of my life and I couldn’t be prouder.”
The class are excited about embarking on similar opportunities and have already started inspiring other children within the school to set up their own events.
Pepenbury’s Chief Executive Sarah Stookes said “It is overwhelming to see the creativity, enthusiasm and dedication the children have shown to fundraising for Pepenbury.
“They have a fantastic understanding of what we do to support others and it is lovely to hear them speak about their many different fundraising initiatives. We are truly grateful for all their hard efforts.”
