A CERTAIN famous yellow bear visited the area and even played a round of golf during the BBC’s Children in Need campaign.

During the five-day, 61-mile ‘Pier-to-Pier’ walking challenge, a team from BBC South East started at Town Pier, Gravesend, then made their way through North Kent, calling at Tonbridge and reaching Tunbridge Wells on November 16.

While in town, the mascot stopped for a quick lesson and teed off on the green of the Nevill Golf Club.

Then, after calling in at BBC Radio Kent and BBC South East offices in Mount Pleasant, the team headed on into East Sussex.

A spokeswoman from independent Catholic girls’ school Mayfield School said: “Our Year 7 girls were so excited to meet Pudsey when he made a pit stop in Mayfield as part of his Pier-to-Pier challenge for Children in Need.”

Once in East Sussex, the walkers followed the Cuckoo Trail on to the final destination of Eastbourne Pier.
