Should the government lift the grammar school ban?

Ban on new grammars confirmed but annexe loophole remains

Kent is set to open its first new grammar school in 50 years after an existing school was given the go-ahead to open an annexe ten miles away.

The Weald of Kent in Tonbridge will run an extra site at Sevenoaks with 450 places, allocated by the 11-plus.

The moves effectively sides-steps a ban on opening new grammar schools imposed by New Labour in 1998.
