Staff and volunteers make our parks among the best in the world

Parks and open spaces in Tunbridge Wells have been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as being among the best in the world.

Five open spaces, it was announced yesterday [Tuesday], have retained their prestigious Green Flag Awards for another year.

They are Woodbury Park Cemetery, The Grove, Grosvenor and Hilbert Recreation Ground, Calverley Grounds and Dunorlan Park – which also has a Green Heritage Site Accreditation.

All met the objective of the scheme putting them among the record-breaking 1,797 UK parks and spaces receiving a Green Flag Award from Keep Britain Tidy.

The Green Flag initiative means they are good quality parks and green spaces that are managed in an environmentally sensitive and sustainable way. They are welcoming places that are healthy, safe and secure for all members of the community to use.

Cabinet member Cllr Jane March said: “We value our parks and are very proud of them. We have become rather accustomed to retaining the Green Flag Awards but these Awards are only possible with the support of the respective Friends groups and the hard work of the parks team and our contractor Sodexo.

The Flags are well deserved and I hope this will encourage more people to visit and enjoy their parks.’
