Thieves use stolen digger in supermarket cash machine raid

Police say the digger was taken from the nearby Longfield Road recycling centre, and was used to smash into Asda supermaket on the same road.

Detective Inspector James Derham said: ‘The cash machine burglary took place in a busy industrial area of the town and we are asking for witnesses who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously or saw a large vehicle leaving the north farm estate area around the time of the incident.’

He said Kent Police received a report at 3.34am  on Thursday 4 April 2019 that a digger had been driven into Asda in Longfield Road, causing damage to the building, and a cash machine was stolen.

The digger was abandoned in the car park of Asda in Tunbridge Wells in the small hours of this morning.

The ram-raid caused a large amount of damage to the outside wall of the supermarket where the ATMs are located.
