Crowborough teenager Tom Hunt is aiming to become the youngest person to run from Land’s End to John O’Groats – and raise money to fight ME.
The 18 year old, who has just completed his A levels at Canterbury’s King’s School, is trying to cover 900 miles in 31 days – the equivalent of 38 marathons back-to-back.
He started on August 25, having already received pledges of £8,500 for the ME Association.
Tom wanted to help the charity because the head of the Cadet Corp at his school, Major Adam Vintner, has seen his father Fred suffer from Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) for 30 years.
“Major Vintner has helped me a lot, especially because I want to join the army after university,” said Tom. “I’d wanted to do this challenge for a while and I decided to run it to raise money for the ME Association as a thank you to him.”
Tom, who started running when he had to give up rugby because of a shoulder injury, has been training for a year, covering up to 60 miles a day.
He hopes to be included in the Guinness Book of Records when he completes his feat of endurance.
