Cllr Matt Boughton has replaced Nicolas Heslop as leader of the Kent authority following an election at the Annual Council meeting last night [Tuesday July 13].
The councillor will serve as Leader of the Conservative run authority until the next election in 2023.
Cllr Boughton, said: “It is an honour and privilege to have been elected Leader of Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council. I would like to pay tribute to my predecessor, Nicolas Heslop, who has worked so hard and made a huge difference to residents across the borough over the past 9 years in the role.
“This is a new administration and this Council will be an authority which listens to everyone across the Borough. There are many challenges to tackle and we will do so fairly. But there are also exciting times ahead and many changes to make for communities across the area. I am looking forward to getting going.’”
Cllr Heslop, who is to remain in the Council, served as leader for nine years but stepped down last month citing an increased workload.
