Performing a Midsummer Night’s Dream is a joy for most actors but for pupils at The Mead it literally was a dream come true as their abridged version of the Shakespeare classic has just won them a top prize at the Independent Schools Association Drama Festival.
The play scooped the Oxford House Prize for Best Junior Production and also saw one of its actors, Sam Tavares, 11, take home the Wilmslow Prize for Best Junior Boy Performer for his role as Bottom.
The Independent Schools Association Drama Festival is held nationally every year and sees schools perform complete versions or extracts from plays, musicals and also original creations.
This year’s competition took place on March 5 at Hurst Lodge School near Ascot and competition winners were announced last week.
“We are so thrilled, excited and proud,” said The Mead’s Headmistress Angela Culley.
“This is an amazing achievement and accolade for everyone involved in the production and will be a lifelong moment of pride.”
She went on to say: “Every child in year six was an integral part of the team and without each one giving 100% the production would not have worked.”
Angela Culley also paid tribute to the school’s Head of Performing Arts, Victoria Hall whose ‘vision, drive, ambition and direction’ enabled everyone involved to achieve such a brilliant result.
She also thanked the school’s staff for their help with the ‘ethereal costumes, amazing set, props and make-up.’
