Eloise Fryett, 16, is largely responsible for caring for her mother, who suffers from a condition which causes frequent attacks, resulting in her being unable to breathe properly and requiring immediate medical help.
Eloise was nominated for an award by Helen Stringer, a Young Person’s Support Worker with the charity Imago, who witnessed at first hand how Eloise coped when her mother suffered a sudden attack.
A KCC spokesperson said: “Having dealt with this emergency on many previous occasions, Eloise knew exactly what to do, calmly calling the ambulance, relaying information about her mum’s condition and her medication.
“She offers incredible support and is also a wonderful carer to her younger siblings, especially when her mother is in hospital.”
Eloise was one of 24 finalists chosen from the many inspirational stories from around the county, and was the district category winner for Tunbridge Wells.
She received her award from Roger Gough, KCC’s Cabinet member for children, young people and education, at the Spirit of Try Angle County Final at the Ashford International Hotel.
