The company behind the plans to redevelop the old cinema site has announced its second public consultation will take place next week.
Altitude Real Estate will be hosting the drop-in event at the Camden Centre over two days in order to showcase and receive feedback on its potential plans to transform the notorious eyesore.
Stephen Tillman, Director of Altitude Real Estate Limited, said: “We would be delighted to welcome residents, stakeholders and businesses to drop in over the two days to view the display and discuss the options with our team, before leaving any comments and opinions they may have.
“All views will then be fully considered as we continue preparing our proposals for submission of a planning application towards the end of the year.
“We had many visitors at a previous session held earlier this year at the Trinity Centre and the feedback received from local people at that event has already been used to develop the plans that will be exhibited.
“We believe we can positively transform what is such a prominent location in the town and want residents of Tunbridge Wells to have their say.”
The announcement comes shortly after pre-application papers were submitted to Tunbridge Wells Borough Council with outline plans suggesting a building between four and six storeys high and containing 110 flats could be built.
There will also be provision for 100 parking spaces and 6,000 square metres of ‘non-residential’ floor space, predominantly facing Mount Pleasant Road.
The papers request a ‘screening opinion’ to assess likely environmental impacts in the conservation area and whether or not this will require a further Environmental Impact Assessment.
Altitude bought the site, which has been vacant for 16 years, from the previous owners Carlyle Group in April and has pledged to keep the public up to date with progress on their development plans.
Recently workmen have been seen on the premises clearing rubble and repairing some of the hoardings in order to ‘make the site safe’ before further development takes place.
Members of the public can attend the drop-in consultation on Thursday, October 6 between 2.00pm and 8.00pm in the Main Hall at the Camden Centre, and Friday 7th October 2016 between 3.00pm and 8.00pm in the Victoria Suite at the centre.
