The dream of young curling players to represent England at a world championship hangs on their online appeal.
A team of five women who play at Fenton’s Curling Rink in Tunbridge Wells have qualified to play at the World Junior B Curling Championship in Finland in January.
But without the public’s support they may be staying at home with the team needing to raise £750 to pay for transport, kit and accommodation.
Sarah Decoine, Niamh Fenton, Kitty Conlin, Mia Andell and Sydney Boyd, are all aged 15 to 20 and live locally. They won the national championships at Fenton’s in April.
Team coach Tracey Lyne said: “Curling is a minority sport so there is no funding for this kind of event.
“We have won gold before at the championships with a different team. Although this group is a bit less experienced overall they are still looking to be competitive.”
The appeal on website Crowdfunder runs until December 28 and so far £120 has been raised.
A spokesman said: “Any donations will be gratefully appreciated, as having even a little relief from this financial burden helps us to relax about the trip, and focus on our goals.”
The championship will be held in Lohja, Finland, from January 2 to 10.
