Gardeners across Tunbridge Wells were celebrating after the town won a prestigious gold award in this year’s South and South East in Bloom.
Judges handed out a top rating in the large towns category, based on Tunbridge Wells’ ‘gardening efforts’, community participation and environmental responsibility.
Mayor David Elliott accepted the award on behalf of the town at a ceremony in Brighton on September 11, when the Barnett’s Wood local nature reserve won a bronze award in the ‘large conservation area’ category.
The accolades came shortly before the Royal Tunbridge Wells in Bloom awards at the Hotel Du Vin on September 24 (pictured).
Winners included Broadwater Down for best school, Christine Newman for best front garden and Love Inc for best shop front.
Nicholas Fuller, who won a silver award for his garden, said: “It was a fantastic surprise to receive a silver for our front garden entry, it inspired us to go onward and upwards to gold next year.”
