The town will compete in the Large Town category against five others this year: Biddulph in Staffordshire, Penrith in Cumbria, Prestatyn on the north coast of Wales, Wilmslow in Cheshire and Yeovil in Somerset.
Royal Tunbridge Wells in Bloom took part in the finals last year and received a Silver Gilt award.
The town was put forward for the national competition by South and South East in Bloom. It has won the gold medal at regional level for the past seven years.
A total of 71 cities, towns and villages will compete across 12 categories in a competition which has been running for 55 years.
The RHS Britain in Bloom judges will visit the town during judging fortnight, which starts on July 29. The winners of each category will be announced in October.
The Chair of the Britain in Bloom judging panel, Darren Share, said: “Britain in Bloom isn’t just about spectacular floral displays and making our villages, towns and cities beautiful to live in and visit.
“Many of this year’s finalists are on the front line of tackling some of the UK’s biggest challenges, such as climate change, plastic waste on beaches and declining pollinator populations.
“The thousands of volunteers who will compete this year are a barometer for growing trends and the importance and impact of greening our communities.”
