The Mayor took the opportunity to give the pubs collecting boxes for his charity of the year, Mental Health Resource.
On April 23, Cllr Horwood met Martin Mummery, the landlord of the George & Dragon in Tudeley, who decked out his premises in patriotic regalia.
Martin, who took over the pub last August in his first publican’s position, said: “I’d never met the Mayor before. I think it was great that he was getting out to celebrate St George’s Day.
“I’ve always celebrated it myself with a lunch, but unfortunately this was the first time I haven’t for a long time because I was too busy!”
Then in Lamberhurst he met landlords Julie Charles and Clinton Cole and assistant Scott Smith – and was joined by former Mayors Stanley Ward and John Cunningham.
Both are members of the Probus Club of Royal Tunbridge Wells, a lunch and fellowship club for retired professional and business men.
Finally, in Speldhurst, they were welcomed by pub manager Jordan Cook who was interviewed live on air about St George’s Day by BBC Radio Kent while they were there.
Tunbridge Wells Mental Health Resource provides long-term practical and emotional support in a safe and caring environment.
It helps more than 950 people who have complex and enduring mental health conditions who struggle with low self-esteem and lack skills to manage stressful life events.
The charity runs The Hub and the Serenity Cafe, wellbeing centres in Grosvenor Park, where clients can develop a tailored progress plan with experienced staff and also take part in a variety of activities.
