The hospital in Pembury should be fitted with a hyper-acute specialist stroke unit, according to town MP Greg Clark.

Tunbridge Wells Hospital is one of five in Kent that are being considered by health services for the upgrade. NHS chiefs will chose three hospitals, with various combination offers being considered.

As a consultation into the decision continues, Mr Clark, who doubles up as the Business Secretary, has written to Glenn Douglas, the Chief Executive of Kent and Medway Sustainability Transformation Partnership.

The MP has backed their Option D, which would see Tunbridge Wells Hospital fitted with the unit, along with Medway Maritime Hospital and William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.

Mr Clark said: ‘There is no question these improvements to our local health service are needed and I urge you to implement the decision as quickly as possible.’
