Good news for the married couples of Tunbridge Wells, as the town has been knocked from the top spot of the UK’s most adulterous towns.
There’s not a great deal of solace to be had however, as according to the UK’s leading married-dating service, Illicit Encounters, who compiled the list, Tunbridge Wells still stands at 6th place. Further still, the town remains the most controversial in Kent with more than 2% of the adult population signed up.
Sevenoaks is not far behind in the scandalous stakes. At 13th place the town is just one of nine – including Ashford, Folkestone, Gillingham, Gravesend, Maidstone, Margate, Rochester – to appear in the top 150 most adulterous towns. This makes Kent one of the most adulterous regions in the entire country.
Christian Grant, spokesperson for the service, offered his theories for why our county has such rates of infidelity: ‘Kent, it seems, has all the ingredients that make once faithful couples stray. We often find that in today’s economy, the rise in house prices – particularly in the South – scare people away from divorce.’
Although Tunbridge Wells is the highest ranking town in Kent, city-dwellers have far more to be concerned about. More than 5% of Canterbury’s adult population are registered on the site, making it the 14th most adulterous city in the UK.
