Fundraisers in Tunbridge Wells have raised thousands of pounds for charity by completing the Virgin Money London Marathon.
The 26.2mile run was both the hottest [at 24 C] and one of the best attended in the event’s 38 year history, with 40,000 crossing the line at The Mall on Sunday [April 22].
Kenyan athletes Eliud Kipchoge and Vivian Cheruiyot won the respective men’s and women’s marathons, but further behind two runners made Tunbridge Wells proud.
Jojo Cornick finished in 5hrs 13mins to raise an ‘amazing’ £6,000 towards the work that Citizens Advice Tunbridge Wells and District does for the homeless. She is the daughter of volunteer Mandy Cornick
Kalyani McCarthy has so far raised £2,700 for British Red Cross and finished the marathon in 4hrs 7mins.
She said: ‘That was such a long way, and the heat made it so intense.
‘I’ve never experienced anything like it before! I feel such a great sense of achievement, particularly knowing that the pain was all worth it and is going to support such a great cause.’
