Six young photographers have been named above 400 entrants as winners of the ‘wlife03’ competition.
All primary school children in Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge were invited to take part in the wildlife picture contest which ran throughout the Autumn.
Competition organiser and budding photographer Sophia Dennett, ten, held an awards ceremony at St James CE Primary School, which she attends, on Friday, November 17.
Professional photographers and art experts helped her with judging entrants which they whittled down to find winners for the five categories.
Judging was a close call, particularly for the Year 5 category which saw two entrants, Oli Stammers and Alfie Packer, named joint winners.
In addition to age categories which went up to Year 6 there was also a special People’s Choice award given to Year 6 student Reuben Strand for his fun picture of alpacas.
Sophia said: “I’ve really enjoyed encouraging everyone to take part in photography and think about wildlife.
“I’d like to thank all the contestants for their brilliant work, to the judges who gave such detailed feedback plus the organisations that have helped us so much.”
All the shortlisted photographs are currently on display at Royal Victoria Place, on a wildlife wall next to the Pandora shop on the upper floor.
