Pressure group TW Alliance believes the result of an opinion poll provides a confidence boost ahead of their local election campaign.
The group of more than 100 professionals was founded last autumn, primarily in opposition to Tunbridge Wells Borough Council’s [TWBC} plans for their Civic Complex and theatre.
Member Nicholas Pope previously told the Times they were considering contesting seats in the May elections for a third of TWBC’s seats.
Last week 186 people took part in a poll on the group’s Twitter page which TW Alliance posted to test the water ahead of launching any campaign.
Asked ‘would you vote for a TW Alliance candidate?’ 43 per cent said yes, 30 per cent said maybe, 22 per cent said no and 5 per cent replied to say the did not vote.

Mr Pope, who has stated he may consider standing himself, said: “Although the total number of votes is small, it does give a measure of the support.
“I am not sure it will help shape how TW Alliance will operate at the elections, but it does give a level of confidence that there is support for what we are doing and frustration with the way decisions are currently made in the council.”
The Times understands TW Alliance is set to target ‘winnable’ wards in a bid to beat councillors who voted in favour of the contested complex, which costs a gross £90million.
This could either be by supporting an opposition candidate or an alliance member standing as an independent.
Mr Pope continued: “We are in an information gathering and analysis phase, and are looking at each individual council seat being contested as each seat needs a different strategy.”
