Plans to increase parking charges by 29 per cent, which caused an outcry from residents last week, could be put on hold.
Officers from Tunbridge Wells Borough Council put forward a proposal to raise the standard hourly rate in its town centre car parks to £1.80 from its current tariff of £1.40.
But the Planning and Transportation Cabinet Advisory Board has called for the decision to be delayed, citing insufficient information to support the rise.
In a lively Town Hall debate on Monday night, members said officers had not taken into account the latest parking strategy.
Cllr Tracy Moore, a member of the committee, said that the strategy gives ‘more up-to-date data about dwell times and the potential impact of revenue increases’ that was not included in the officer report.
The cabinet was expected to make its decision on September 15, but it is now likely to defer the item.
The advisory board called for officers to submit a new report in time for its next meeting on October 3.
