Millions of TV viewers watched in disbelief on Monday night as they saw Tunbridge Wells teenager Patrick Dauncey fall off a cliff towards jagged rocks on Channel 4’s The Island with Bear Grylls.
Fellow contestants let out terrified screams as the 19-year-old, who is on a gap year in order to take part in the TV show, fell 30ft after losing his footing on the cliff while on a mission to find food.
He landed on his back on the jagged rocks jutting out to sea, leaving viewers wondering how seriously injured he was.
Thankfully one of his team mates was Dan Quemby, one of two doctors in the group, who has since revealed the teenager was saved from serious injury by the fact he was wearing a rucksack on his back.
Mr Dauncey has since been on Twitter making light of the situation, stating: “Oh my gaaad, is he alive or dead? Tuck in next week for more class banter.”
The Island with Bear Grylls is a British reality TV series in which participants are placed on remote, uninhabited Pacific islands as a test of their survival skills.
